Somali Tomczak

Director of Operations, Nicor Gas

Somali Tomczak became Director of Field Operations for Nicor Gas in January 2015. In this role, she oversees safety culture and operations and maintenance activities for the Eastern Region of Nicor Gas which is the largest region serving 380,000 customers. Prior to this role, she managed areas with responsibilities in Environmental Health and Safety, Construction, Pipeline Safety (corrosion, leak survey), Operational Training and Quality, and Mercury Compliance. She also held various roles across the business including System Operations, New Construction, Budget Analysis, and Engineering. Currently, she is part of a special project to operationalize Sustainability.

Somali is a founding member of Inspire and Women In Construction, a women’s employee resource group for Nicor Gas. She also has served on various national American Gas Association (AGA) Committees and Task Forces and was past Chair of the AGA Environmental Matters Committee. She has received the Bronze and Silver Awards of Merit from AGA for her work. She is also a Steering Team member for MEA Energy Association.

Ms. Tomczak participates on numerous Board of Directors, including ISTC, Lake Katherine Nature Center and Botanical Garden, Illinois Prairie Education Foundation, and United Way Women United Executive Board. In 2017, Ms. Tomczak received the Women’s Energy Network’s Powerful Woman Award for her efforts in advocating, recruiting and retaining women in energy. She earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Civil/Environmental Engineering and a MBA from DePaul University, Kellstadt School of Business. She is married and has a grown daughter.
