In this, our third edition of the monthly ISTC
Catalyst, we offer examples of exciting electronics research at
Illinois-based universities and Argonne National Laboratory.
ISTC
Catalyst will always present brief reviews of developments of
note for the science and technology community in Illinois and the
Midwest. Although each featured institution could have
provided numerous examples of their exploration in electronics, we
collaborated with them to select a representative sample. We
encourage you to visit their web sites for more information.
A future issue of ISTC
Catalyst will examine breakthrough work in electronics in the
private sector.
In his concise essay ("Let's Commit to Collaborative Advocacy for
R&D"), ISTC President & CEO Matthew Summy urges academic,
business, civic and elected leaders in Illinois to advocate for
increased funding for science and technology research and
development.
This issue of ISTC
Catalyst includes a link to TechAmerica, one of our key partner
organizations. Visit the site to learn more about
TechAmerica, known as "...the largest and strongest voice and
resource for technology in the United States." Consider
attending TechAmerica's event in November, one of the premier
conferences in the Midwest. More information is available in
our Engage section and on TechAmerica's web site.
Finally, our Speak section asks you to share your thoughts on two
topics: What would you like to see ISTC
Catalyst cover in the future? How would you be willing to
help bring additional R&D funding into Illinois-based
institutions? You speak; we'll listen and react. Thank
you.

Let's Commit to Collaborative Advocacy for
R&D
By Matthew Summy, President & CEO
Illinois Science & Technology Coalition
During an April speech to the National Academy of Sciences,
President Barack Obama pledged to increase funding for scientific
research and development (R&D).
It is our challenge as leaders of the Illinois science and
technology community to work together to turn this pledge into a
reality.
